Cowboys have an ace up their sleeve that can help them survive without Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys are in serious trouble on offense. That much was true even with Dak Prescott healthy, so it’s magnified with him out.

On the bright side, the Cowboys have some true playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. Dan Quinn has pushed all of the right buttons since taking over as defensive coordinator. As a result, the unit has largely thrived.

Even with Dallas struggling mightily on offense during Sunday night’s loss, the defense kept the team in the game. The Cowboys’ defense got after Tom Brady, prevented the Buccaneers from breaking the game open, and gave up just one touchdown against a talented offense.

Micah Parsons reminded everybody how much of a game-breaker he can be. Parsons sacked Brady twice and was flying sideline-to-sideline all night. He is the type of difference maker that can change games in the Cowboys’ favor.

Additionally, Trevon Diggs made some nice plays in coverage down the field. He did give up the touchdown reception to Mike Evans, but he also made some contested plays on the ball when Brady tested him deep. Diggs is also a well-known ball hawk, too.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys will be without Jayron Kearse for the next couple of weeks. Kearse has been a leader for the Dallas defense since signing with the team last offseason. He suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday’s loss.

That means somebody else will need to step up. Israel Mukuamu and Marquese Bell will be counted on during the upcoming stretch.

With Cooper Rush expected to take over QB1 duties while Prescott is out, it is reasonable to believe that the offense will continue to struggle. Especially with all of the holes surrounding whoever is playing quarterback.

Dan Quinn, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and the defense will be forced to pick up the slack. The talent and coaching is there on that side of the ball to keep the Dallas Cowboys alive while Dak Prescott is out.
